Foam Hand Wash, Ginger Brgmt, 9.5 oz
Why I love this excellent hand soap:
-It’s green, non-toxic, biodegradable, and so forth. -The pretty bottle has a peel-off label, and you can buy eco-friendlier refills in big jugs. -It has an herbal, gender neutral scent that combines well with cooking smells if you want to use it in the kitchen. -It’s foamy, so my little guy thinks it’s cool.
Give it a go, you’ll like it.

The Sanctuary Foaming Bath Soak
The Brits: don’t you love how they have a classier term for “bubble bath”? Bubble baths are for toddlers. Foaming bath soaks are for hard-working people who deserve a stiff drink and magazine escape. Now available at Target, so you can stop asking your UK friends to ship you a bottle.

Neutrogena MoistureShine Soothing LipSheers
Not as goopy as gloss, not as heavy as lipstick, and the cooling sensation is totally for real, plus SPF 20. My favorite is Ruby Bliss, if you’re a dark-haired, olive-skinned lady.

Pyhtovolume Shampoo
There was this one year when I was supposed to spend $100 a month on household goods. I used coupons for as much as I could and scraped together enough so I could buy this expensive shampoo guilt free.
I have ridiculously baby-fine hair and this shampoo bulks it up. It also makes me smell delicious.

Bed Head Control Freak Hair Straightener
I have curly hair, specifically, I have frizzy curly hair. A little bit of this stuff, and I can use my curling iron to get smooth, straight hair like all the cool girls. Just a little though, too much and your hair is a gunky, sticky mess. Of course, that means it lasts longer. Score.

Clarins Self Tanning Gel
I am pale, pale, pale. I can see by my own glow in the night.
This gel evens out my skin tone and makes me look like I’m wearing base and a little bronzer all the time. It’s easy to apply, the color is totally natural, and I only use it on my face and shoulders, so it lasts forever.
Remember to wash your hands after applying or your suspiciously tan palms will blow your cover.

Sharps Guck in a Puck
This makes a great gift because lots of men won’t buy themselves fancy grooming products. My friend Pete has been looking for some good hair styling gel, so I asked him to check out this cream intstaed. Here’s what he said:
“I like it a lot. I am very picky about this stuff too. I hate difficult-to-use, greasy hair products, many of which leave my scalp feeling nasty (read oily) after application. This particular product is great because it doesn’t require gobs and gobs to get desired results, most importantly hold and manageability. It doesn’t feel overly greasy or oily either, and it’s versatile in that I’ve tried it dry with wet hair or wet with dry hair (I wet it with just a few drops of water making it really easy to use.) And it smells good dammit.”

If you’re giving bath or body products as gifts, lavender is a classic choice. This lovely set comes in a fair-trade woven grass box.
It features the basics: body cream, bath salts, and silky, thick shea hand cream that comes in a glass jar. Apparently I am a complete sucker for a glass jar.

Philosophy Pure Grace Soap and Water Set
My friend Sarah treats herself to this scent set, because she has a thing about soap.
She says, “I am obsessed with smelling clean. I don’t want to smell like flowers or fruit or any of that teenage stripper bullshit; I want to smell like I just stepped out of the shower, all day long.”
And thanks to her secret weapon, she does.

The Standard Shave Cream
My husband loves this shaving cream. He says it’s unctuous, and leaves his skin feeling moisturized. I like it because it makes his face smell clean, but not musky like some shaving creams. The scent is a mixture of sandalwood, yling ylang, and lavender. It smells like he just came in from doing light yard work. Guys who do yard work are hot.

Bobbi Brown Tinted Eye Brightener
This is one of my lovely friend Margaret’s favorite things. She says:
“It makes me look awake when I’m not. I don’t like to wear a lot of eye makeup, but a girl can use a little brightening now and then.
The salesperson freaked me out by saying it was a nonsurgical way to get an eyelift. I’m only 36!”
So that salesperson can stuff it, but it’s certainly true that every girl could use a little brightening. I feel sunnier already.

Alba Hawaiian
My friend Kayla Cagan says:
“I swear this is the best after-sun lotion ever. It says it’s kona coffee, but it smells like mint-chocolate chip ice cream to me. It’s totally cooling and delicious. It may not be the best marketing, but this is perfection in a bottle.”
Bring one to the friend whose beach house or pool you’ve been invading all summer.
