  • The Standard Shave Cream

    -237_thumb

My husband loves this shaving cream. He says it’s unctuous, and leaves his skin feeling moisturized. I like it because it makes his face smell clean, but not musky like some shaving creams. The scent is a mixture of sandalwood, yling ylang, and lavender. It smells like he just came in from doing light yard work. Guys who do yard work are hot.

  • Bobbi Brown Tinted Eye Brightener

    Eyebright_thumb

This is one of my lovely friend Margaret’s favorite things. She says:

“It makes me look awake when I’m not. I don’t like to wear a lot of eye makeup, but a girl can use a little brightening now and then.

The salesperson freaked me out by saying it was a nonsurgical way to get an eyelift. I’m only 36!”

So that salesperson can stuff it, but it’s certainly true that every girl could use a little brightening. I feel sunnier already.

  • Alba Hawaiian

    200_thumb

    My friend Kayla Cagan says:

“I swear this is the best after-sun lotion ever. It says it’s kona coffee, but it smells like mint-chocolate chip ice cream to me. It’s totally cooling and delicious. It may not be the best marketing, but this is perfection in a bottle.”

Bring one to the friend whose beach house or pool you’ve been invading all summer.

  • The Big Skinny

    Picture_1_thumb

You freckle and burn instead of bronzing when you tan. You can’t seem to apply a self tanner without leaving shadowy uneven spots that look like bruises. Welcome to The Big Skinny. It’s a body bronzer that stays on, but washes right off if you make a mistake. The best non-committal tan on the market.

    Thanks, Margaret!

  • Maybelline Superstay

    Superstay_thumb

Holy crap you guys, this is a miracle product. I bought some superstay by accident when I left my makeup behind on a trip, and now I can’t shut up about it. It’s a double-ended tube with a gloss on one side and a balm on the other. Apply the gloss let it dry, then apply the lip balm, and it stays on until you use a makeup remover to get it off. Seriously. More than once, I’ve woken bleary-eyed, wandered into the bathroom to brush my teeth, and spooked when I realized that I’m still rocking the crimson lips from my night out. What’s more, it feels like a stain, so you don’t even realize you’re wearing lipstick. Also, hello? It’s $10 a tube! So I bought five. My favorite color is wine, which is a bright red, but every one I’ve bought is a winner. Get this, ladies. You will not regret it.

  • Enchanting Lipstick in Red Velvet

    Velvetred_thumb

When my signature red lipstick was discontinued, I was so bummed that I considered having it reformulated. Then, the nude-gloss revolution distracted me just long enough for a tiny tube of Besame’s Red Velvet to arrive in the mail. This deep red makes me want to purr seductively in soft lighting, and it smells great too–a little like chocolate. It will have you winking at strangers in no time.

  • Tom’s of Maine Natural Anticavity Flouride Toothpaste, Spearmint

  • Fresh Hand and Body Lotion

    Rawfresh_thumb

Raw Beauty sent me a bottle of their “Black Raspberry Vanilla” lotion a while ago, and I didn’t pay much attention. This is because I’m a packaging whore, and I didn’t like the bottle. After all, half the appeal of a good lotion is how it looks pretty on the counter. Then I set the bottle on my desk and started using it when my hands were feeling chapped. It leaves my thirsty hands feeling silky and it has a subtle scent – like rich-girl neck. It also reminds me of a bowl of cream with a few raspberries tossed in. Anyway, when I realized that I might just order more when my stash runs out, I figured it was high time to tell you guys about it. Hemp oil plus carrot extract equals crazy softness.

  • Pinch Your Cheeks

    Pinchcheeks_thumb

I have three problems with most cheek tints: 1. The color is so intense that if you apply a teeny bit too much, you look like a drag queen. 2. They dry so quickly that you have to rub hard to get the tint on evenly, which makes your cheeks look redder than they really are, which makes it difficult to gauge whether you need more tint. 3. They’re laughably expensive. Pinch Your Cheeks solves all those problems. Give it a go.
