Reviews Summary

Here's what the reviewers think about the Gregory Jade:

Reviewers like these things about the Gregory Jade

  • The updated Gregory Jade backpack is both streamlined and lightweight. It is packed with a low-profile, redefined suspension as well as improved lumbar platform and shoulder harness for added comfort.
  • It features low-profile compartments for added balance and front stretch pocket can be simple to grab.
  • It provides easier unloading and packing thanks to U-zipper upside down access panel.
  • Dual stretch mesh pockets on the side for easy access.
  • You will really love it for the fact that the rain cover has external zippered pocket which covers up the accessory storage.
  • It controls the load with crossover side compression. The dual size loops are added on the trekking pole attachment for different poles and tools.
  • It provides excellent ventilation to keep you cool on hot days with 3D suspension mesh back cover and anti-barreling stay with HDPE framesheet.
  • For added security, it has permanent top lid with key clip and zippered pocket.
  • The pack is very comfortable so you can carry weight for longer time.
  • It literally reduces the common sweaty back problem in most backpacks.

Reviewers don't like these things

  • One of the major problems with this pack is that the chest strap is not sewn and is poorly designed. For bed roll, there are also no straps on bottom.
  • The size is also very small in pack. It is good for small hikers but not suitable for hikers with different heights.

The pack weighs more than many packs of similar size. It compresses well for a dayhike.

Backpack Gear Test

Aside from the size and placement of the top stash pocket (noted in the previous reports) I can find nothing wrong with the pack, and just about nothing more I could want in a day pack.

Backpack Gear Test

I think the Z 55 can be easily handle any kind of hiking I am likely to do. It has done well for me day hiking, hiking out to do trail work while carrying safety gear and backpacking with a full load. When I go with a small load for a day of hiking or trail work the compression straps tighten down to hold everything in place.
