16 Expert Gamers Share Their Best LAN Party Bag Designs and Ideas

Bringing your computer to a LAN party isn’t as easy as you might think. Unlike business people who just carry their laptop, the gamers need to bring both computer, a big screen and a lot of other stuff.

Some gamers have found a solution in existing backpacks and suitcases, but there are also quite a few that dream about a custom solution.

To keep the dream alive and hopefully influence the develop of more custom bags, we have asked 16 expert gamers how they would design the ultimate LAN party bag.

The 16 Expert Gamers

If you were to design the ultimate LAN party bag, what would you focus on?

a) My ultimate LAN party bag would probably be a carry-on sized suitcase. I’m envisioning something with a ton of padding, and cutouts for each piece of equipment (keyboard goes here, mouse goes there, etc), similar to the foam inside those pelican cases that they make for camera equipment. The internal padding should be able to be swapped out though, in case you decided to bring a laptop instead of a full desktop setup.

I think it would be great if it had some sort of integrated power too. Not a battery pack (you’re always sitting in the same place at a LAN, why would you need a battery?) but maybe you could plug it in and it would have a power strip along the side, or even just a ton of powered USB ports for charging phones and tablets.

You’d be surprised how many people forget to bring a power strip or a phone charger to a LAN (it’s easy to forget!) now it’s build right in so you’ll never be without power for all your devices.

b) If you wanted to get really creative. A “LAN party setup in a box” could be pretty cool if you could implement it well… Imagine if your screen, keyboard, mouse, mouse-pad, and headset stand were all built into a small suitcase. That way when you roll up to your LAN table, you place the suitcase on it’s side, unzip it, the keyboard and mouse-pad fold out on the door and your screen is mounted inside. Now THAT would be cool 😛

My ultimate lan party bag would be to have the option of attaching 2 boxes to chair, so that you can roll everything in smoothly you would normally have and being able to open up and setup quickly, then repack as easily when you are going home, sounds a bit simple I guees, but i think that is how I would enjoy it. I think the only kind of electronic on it is an extension (Per say plug the chair in at the bottom in the floor switch, then have the switch end at arm heigth) so you could have an easy time finding your phone charger when the need is there!

I don’t know. I’ve hadn’t done this type of thing since when I lived in New York City. These days I’m more likely to host a board game event.

I would think a rolling suitcase is ideal, especially if you are driving but also if you are taking mass transportation. That is best for a desktop. For a laptop a good padded case is recommended.

If the bag was designed to carry a small monitor (~20-26 inch), I would say a small suite case. The suite case could be designed with a hard exterior which would help prevent damage to the equipment during transportation. However, if the bag is strictly for the tower and peripherals, I would say a duffel bag or large backpack would be more ideal.

I prefer smaller bags for ease of travel and the ability to have my hands free (as opposed to dragging a roller suite case on the ground).

If I were designing the “Ultimate” bag, I would include the latest charger pack technology, TSA approved luggage lock, and potentially some kind of tracking device. Gaming equipment tends to be on the expensive side and I feel like having safety features would be extremely beneficial, especially to anyone who is traveling alone and may need to leave their bag temporary unattended.

If I had my way, I would love a bag that carried accessories properly. It would be great to have a bag with pockets specifically for the mouse, keyboard, cables, controllers, and cords. It would also be fantastic to have a proper carrying case (something nicely padded) for my monitor. I currently use a 24in monitor but people in my gaming group have a wide range of monitors, large and small. I can imagine a quick “open and shut” case (or bag) that properly holds one monitor. As of right now, every time I take my monitor somewhere, I risk scratching it.

It would definitely need to be on wheels to carry the tower, place a space big enough to fit a 24inch screen your laptop, food/drink and enough space for all those other gadgets you’ll need.

There are plenty of backpacks around that do the job already. If there is one thing I’d love to see – that would be a better way of charging phones/tablets from a battery pack, where the battery pack would remain inside the pocket of the bag, while the phone/tablet would be outside – easily accessible and visible, yet fixed to the bag. Maybe like a double pocket with small space inside for the battery pack, a whole for the cable, and a net pocket outside.

The ultimate bag would be large enough to carry all the gear including a keyboard. There’s lot of bags out there, but few that can carry something as oddly shaped as a keyboard. The less things you can carry the better, and so any bag that can hold (headset, mouse, keyboard, etc.) is super helpful.

Large multi-compartment Backpack with insulated compartment to keep drinks separate and cool.

If I were to design a bag I would include a few things. First the necessary sections like the pockets and dividers. I would include the strap that allows you to secure your laptop or electronic equipment from bouncing around in your bag.

I would love to have Little loops that allow you to secure wires in a pocket. I hate arriving and my wires are tangled so having this section (similar to have book bags had the individual pencil holders) would come in handy for your organized gamer.

I would love to have a built in cooling system to make sure that your electronics are not overheating. Maybe a preinstalled charging port would be a great add on as well.

If I could design my own LAN party bag, I’d probably start with a backpack concept, because what you always see at these events is guys pushing their PCs in from the parking lot balanced on the seat of their gaming chairs, which works fine, but you have no free hands left.

A backpack that could comfortably accommodate your full-length keyboard, mouse, headset, and all the cables you need at a LAN party would be a really handy upgrade to my LAN party game. I’d want it to have sturdy but soft padded shoulder straps plus maybe a rubberized or leather carry handle at the top and be made of durable nylon. High-quality zippers are a must, and having a few compartments would be handy, as well.

To design the ultimate LAN party bag, would perfectly fit ones case or computer; and keep the computer it protected. Be lightweight with straps to easily carry or wheels with an easy to reach handle to roll.

Large computers need something like a Pelican case, with customer cut foam.

Laptop gamer can use any of the great laptop carrying case bags as long as it is not too heavy, but still has space for the accessories. Being a mouse, headset, and power brick. If you are going to bother with also a monitor, keyboard, or anything like that man up and build a desktop computer vs a laptop.

If you were to design the ultimate LAN party bag, what would you focus on?

If I were to design the LAN party bag I would focus on a rolling case with external pockets and organizers that could potentially function as a charging station as well when plugged into a power strip. It should be protective of your PC and allow the monitor to attach to it via a strap or harness so you can roll it. It should allow for external custimization of your gamer tag as well.

Tactical Backpacks all the way. I use a 5.11 Rush 24 as my Every Day Carry for my Gaming Notebook. In the perfect world I would like to see a Modular Keyboard designed, something with USB connections that breaks into 2 or 3 pieces or ease of transport.

Carrying cases/straps for PCs are the way to go to carry the rig, but they are often only made for Mid-tower cases, not LAN cases like what I have. I had to modify my own straps. From the stand point of running LAN events, Wheeled Pelican Boxes… All Day Long.

For me, I love my BFG backback so very much. I can’t even find them anymore and fear the day mine wears out. It fits a full size MS-Natural keyboard, a laptop, my cords and perphs, and has other pockets to hold little items like my USB drives, Wallet, and phone. The bag is very comfortable and built in 2007. It’s doesn’t have tech in it, and really doesn’t need any. It is comfortable, looks nice, and fits my stuff.

If you were to design the ultimate LAN party bag, what would you focus on?

I would focus on the size of the bag so my keyboard would fit in in the first place. Later, I like to have a lot of other bag pockets to fit my other gaming gear, space for my wallet, power bank. The material of the bag should be waterproof.
