Osprey Ariel vs Osprey Aura

Osprey is known to produce the best backpacks and both the Osprey Ariel and Aura are evidence for this reputation. What you get from any of the two is many interior and exterior pockets, exceptional comfort, and a lightweight structure. They are convenient for just about any outdoor activity.

There are a few main differences you should know of before settling on one bag over the other. Although both have adjustable AntiGravity Backpanel Suspension System, the Ariel has a bulkier suspension system and is more often than not preferred for heavy hauling outdoor adventures.

Other differences include:

  • The Aura has top access to the backpack while the Ariel has both top and front access.

  • Aura has more pockets (6 zippered and 3 enclosed) than the Ariel (5 zippered and 3 enclosed pockets).

  • The Ariel has 2 front compression straps while the Aura doesn’t.

  • Aura has an attached rain cover, a feature that's absent in the Ariel.

  • The Ariel has a special hip belt (heat moldable) while the Aura doesn’t.

Backcountry Skiing Canada

Overall the 2017 Ariel and Aether AG series is a remarkable improvement over it’s predecessors and well worth the upgrade particularly if, like me, you like to move more efficiently and take it a little easier on your body so that you can focus on getting out to enjoy being out in the mountains.

With the 2013 upgrades Osprey's Ariel backpack easily offers up one of the most supportive backpacks on the market for women and this is something you don't notice until you load 'er up and start walking a few km.
