Reviews Summary

Here's what the reviewers think about the Osprey Talon:

Reviewers like these things about the Osprey Talon

  • Osprey Talon is loaded with comfort and convenience features. Many users found it convenient with blinker light attachment, helmet clip attachment, ventilated back panel, adjustable harness, bungee tool attachment, hip belt pockets, outer stash pocket and easy to access trekking pole attachment. All these features made it a best choice for commuting and biking.
  • You can enjoy added security by tightening the bungee cord and it works well when the pack is loaded. Helmet attachment is another best part of this pack for biking, climbing with a helmet and other activities.
  • You can easily adjust the harness as it is completely adjustable. The shoulder straps are fully customizable and you can undo the Velcro in the hydration compartment and you can comfortably move the straps wherever you want to.
  • The hydration bladder is the added beauty of this pack. Even if the pack is full, you can easily access it in its separate compartment. The side compartments are loaded with InsideOut straps from Osprey. You can secure all the small items like sunscreen bottles and water bottles.
  • When it comes to application, this pack will surely accompany you in general commuting and mountain biking. Its blinker clip and helmet carry feature makes it easy for general day hiking.

Reviewers don't like these things

  • At around 26 ounces with all the extra features, this backpack is quite heavy for long-term hiking. It is not for fast and light hiker because they want a pack which is more streamlined.
  • When it comes to design, the back panels are not so breathable.

The Talon refrains from gimmicks; it is simple, but everything about it is practical. It is lightweight, comfortable, and can easily be adjusted to fit any body type.

The Big Outside

For dayhikes of any distance, mountain biking, bike commuting, or adventure racing, when you need a little more space and want comfort and features without extra weight, they’re among the top two or three daypacks in that category.

Bike Radar

A well made pack with decent capacity, but narrow straps can make it uncomfortable during more aggressive riding.

Bike Radar

The Talon’s well designed harness system gives a truly comfortable feel out on the trail. The deep hip belt sits snugly in position and it’s easy to ?x the weight to your shoulders with the looped adjusters.

Backpack Gear Test

Despite a few negatives, this pack is a real winner in my book. With loads from 20 to 25 lb (9 to 11 kg) it is very comfortable, and even with the 31 lb load (14 kg) I had no real problems with the pack. I would not hesitate to use this pack for a long hike as long as my loads stay reasonably light.

Bike Radar

A superbly well-made pack that you can put on and forget. The value for money question is tricky. The design of the waistbelt makes this a better backpack than similarly-sized dedicated hydration packs.

Backpack Gear Test

I really like the Talon 44 and plan to use it for many years to come. If they change the way the side compression straps run over the pocket I will be all over a new one though. I leave with a shot of it on a snowy spring-time trail.

Bike Radar

This versatile, feature packed daypack doubles as a stable water carrier and is festooned with neat ideas that lift it above the herd. Its clever lightly-padded shoulder straps and hip belt make it comfortable even if you really load it up.

Sierra Descents

It is an ultra light backpack and very comfortable to carry for long hours. It also has a good ventilation which is much imressive for hot weather.
